If I am accepted into the Barcelona program, am I guaranteed an internship?

Yes.

If we are unable to place you in an in-person internship within your primary or secondary career field you are protected by our money-back guarantee.

When is the deadline to apply for the Independent Traveler Program?

You must apply for our Independent Traveler Program offered in Barcelona at least 2 months before your desired start date. Applicants are accepted into our programs on a rolling basis & we offer programs starting every month of the year.

What is included in the Independent Traveler Program?

Our Independent Traveler Program offered in Barcelona includes an in-person placement in a professional internship in the destination of your choice, visa assistance, remote 24/7 support, invitation to our global community & events as well as access to our Career Advancement Training platform and Keynote Speaker Series.

Our Independent Traveler Program is designed to maximize independence meaning you choose the destination of your choice, arrange your own accommodation & flights.

Before your internship begins, you’ll receive access to a variety of professional development resources to prepare you for your experience. If applicable, our teams will also assist you with the necessary documentation to receive academic credit.

Upon completion, each participant is offered a personalized career coaching session with an Alumni Success Coach. You’ll also have access to our global alumni community and all the networking benefits it provides!

What type of things will I be doing in my internship?

Meaningful, collaborative, project-based work with clear guidelines is the theme within all of our high-quality internships. To ensure project guidelines are defined clearly, that you are making progress and that your projects are on track, you will have regularly scheduled one-on-one catch-up with your internship supervisor in the host organization.

Can I receive academic credit for an internship through The Intern Group?

Our School of Record, Florida A&M University, an accredited public university located in the USA, awards equal academic credit for The Intern Group’s in-person and virtual internships.

Whether you can receive academic credit for an internship depends on your individual academic situation. Please carefully read through our page on academic credit here. The content on our page on academic credit applies to both in-person and virtual internships through The Intern Group.

Are internships paid?

Compensation is offered at the discretion of the host organization/company. The vast majority are unpaid. We principally source opportunities that offer the best possible educational experience and this does not correlate with payment. If, however, a host organization offers a stipend/compensation, program participants are of course welcome to accept it.

For this reason, Time Magazine reports that 88% of our interns do gain graduate-level employment within 3 months of completing their internship.

Will I require a visa to intern?

Depending on your desired destination, a visa might be required. Please check our visa requirements page for more information.

Is there a minimum/maximum age requirement for the Independent Traveler Program?

The minimum age is 18+. There is no maximum age & we regularly welcome experienced career changers.
