5 reasons to intern in Spain this summer

Spain: the land of sunshine, churros, football and Flamenco music. The intern experience in Spain is unlike any other. From the beaches of Barcelona to the plazas of Madrid, you’re unlikely to find a more amazing place. Each of these cities is colorful, vibrant and completely unique. Whether you’re traveling along the coast or exploring the mountains, Spain has something for everyone. Here are 5 excellent reasons to gain international intern experience in Spain this summer.

1. Learn Spanish

Spanish is one of the most useful languages to learn in today’s world. Over 400 million people from more than 21 countries speak Spanish. Additionally, as global markets become increasingly diverse and companies become more international, having Spanish on your CV is a valuable skill. Returning home with Spanish will definitely set you apart in the job market pool later, as bilingual skills are more important than ever.

2. Explore with perfect weather

Sunny days and comfortable temperatures in the evening are perfect for exploring Barcelona’s famous architecture and sampling Madrid’s many cafes. Venturing out from the major cities, you’ll find yourself in mountains, villages and beaches, all with perfect weather.

3. Enjoy the festivals

There’s a reason most tourists flock to Spain all summer long: to experience the culture in festival form. In June, people come from all over the world to experience the street parades of La Patum Festival in Berga, Barcelona. In July, folk music lovers come to enjoy the International Festival of the Celtic World in Ortigueira. Most famously however, is the La Tomatino Tomato Festival in August, where travelers come to take part in the tomato throwing festivities.

4. Try different tapas

If you aren’t familiar with Spanish tapas, get ready. Tapas are small portions of different Spanish dishes, hot or cold. Spanish tapas culture is one of the best aspects of visiting Spain, because sharing tapas is a top social activity, especially on a summer night. Getting tapas with friends is a great way to try several different dishes, and experience a delicious part of Spanish culture.

5. Experience the outdoors

If you love summer, you’ll love it even more in Spain. There are many places around the country to enjoy the outdoors. The Spanish countryside will be vibrantly green, making for some beautiful road trips. Head to Catalonia to spend a weekend exploring the forests, or nature reserves in Andalusia.
