The Intern Group Scholarships for 2019

Each year, The Intern Group offers grants to outstanding students or recent graduates. We are looking for talented, ambitious and global-minded students or recent graduates. This year, there are three Global Leadership Grants available for merit-based and needs-based applicants. You may only apply for one.

Full-Ride Global Leadership Grant to Colombia

The Global Leadership Grant to Colombia funds a needs-based student or recent graduate to intern abroad. An international internship in the emerging market in Medellin, Colombia is invaluable. Interns benefit from exposure to a new culture and language, professional experience, and a global network.


Inclusions:

  • Program fees covered + an additional weekly stipend of $100 USD for a 6 week placement (equivalent to $600 U.S.). This amount significantly supports living costs within Medellin.
  • Accommodation
  • Program activities and excursions
  • 24/7 support from the local team
  • Professional development workshops

 

To be eligible for the Global Leadership Grant to Colombia, an applicant must be:

  • A full-time student (undergraduate or masters) or a recent graduate
  • Applying to only one Global Leadership Grant
  • Willing to document their experience in Colombia with four written blogs or video blogs or a combination of the two
  • Receiving a Federal Pell Grant or student financial aid

 

Application Requirements:

  • Submit an essay responding to the following prompt in 650 words or fewer:
    • “How will an international internship benefit your future career? How will financial assistance help you intern abroad? This is your time to provide insight into who you are behind the resume.”
  • Letter(s) of recommendation
  • CV/Resume
  • Provide proof of financial need through previously received grants, federal aid or other forms of student financial aid. Send an image with your application of the financial aid letter. Our funding page shows accepted forms of financial aid.

 

Selection Process:

Candidates must submit all application requirements: the essay, letter of recommendation, CV/resume and proof of financial need via the online application form. Strong applicants show:

The application is due February 2nd, 2019. Applications are not considered after the deadline. 

Next Steps:

  • February 12th, 2019: Invitations to the shortlist are sent
  • February 25th, 2019: Shortlisted candidates need to upload a video in which they respond to a career-focused question (1 minute 30 seconds in length). This question is specified at the time of shortlisting with further detail when applicants are contacted.
  • March 9th, 2019: The winner of the Global Leadership Grant is announced.

Please note that the recipient's program fees will be covered (including accommodation, professional development workshops, program activities, and 24/7 local support). However, program fees do not include visa fees, flights, in-country transportation, insurance or daily food & drink. In Colombia, the local team provides the weekly stipends of $100 USD. If more finances are needed, the recipient is responsible for the remaining amount.

Global Leadership Grant to Hong Kong

The Global Leadership Grant to Hong Kong provides partial funding for a student or recent graduate to intern abroad in Hong Kong. An international internship in the advanced and world-famous market of Hong Kong is invaluable. Interns benefit from exposure to a new culture and language, professional experience, and a global network.

$3,000 USD Global Leadership Grant to Hong Kong

Inclusions:

  • Covers approximately 50% of a 6-week summer program fee in Hong Kong ($3,000 USD).
  • Recipients can go on a program longer than 6-weeks but receive no more than $3,000 USD. If you’ve already applied and submitted the total program fee via the normal application process, this grant will reimburse you for $3,000 US of the overall summer program fee.

To be eligible for the Global Leadership Grant to Hong Kong, an applicant must be:

  • A full-time student (undergraduate or masters) or recent graduate
  • Applying to only one Global Leadership Grant
  • Willing to document their experience in the form of four written blogs or video blogs or a combination of the two

Program fees do not include visa fees, flights, in-country transportation, insurance or daily food & drink. The recipient is responsible for all finances beyond the $3000 USD grant which includes, but is not limited to, the remaining 50% of the program fee.

Global Leadership Grant to Dublin

The Global Leadership Grant to Dublin provides partial funding for a student or recent graduate to intern abroad in Ireland. An international internship in the historic and thriving capital of Ireland is invaluable. Interns benefit from exposure to a new culture, professional experience, and a global network.

$2,500 USD Global Leadership Grant to Dublin

Inclusions:

  • Covers approximately 50% of a 6-week summer program fee in Dublin ($2,500 USD).
  • Recipients can go on a program longer than 6-weeks but receive no more than $2,500 USD. If you’ve already applied and submitted the full program fee via the normal application process, this grant will reimburse you for $2,500 USD of the overall summer program fee.

FAQs

Can I apply for the grant if I have already confirmed my spot on the program with a deposit?

  • Yes, you can still apply for a grant if you’re already a participant. If you are selected as the winner, we would reimburse you for the amount the grant is worth.

Do I need to apply to the program and schedule an interview in order to apply for the grant?

  • No, you do not need to apply to the regular program to apply to our grants.

Can I apply for the grants if I’ve already applied and been accepted via the traditional process to the program?

  • Yes, but if you are accepted via the traditional process we can only hold your spot for a certain amount of days. If you do not confirm your spot in the program after you’re accepted, we cannot guarantee that you would be accepted again if you chose to re-apply. We suggest confirming your spot in the program and then applying for the grant to be safe.

When will the recipients be announced?

  • We will announce the shortlist on February 12, 2019. The winners will be announced on March 9th, 2019.  

Can I use the grant for a non-accommodation program?

  • No, the grants are only valid towards full programs, with housing included.

When is the deadline?

  • Applications are due February 2, 2019.

Can I apply to more than one?

  • No, you may only apply to one grant.

Can I use this grant if I do not plan on interning with The Intern Group?

  • These scholarships are for The Intern Group participants only.

Can I use the scholarship for another destination?

  • No, the grants are destination specific and cannot be exchanged for another destination.

Can I go longer than 6 weeks?

  • Yes, recipients can go on program longer than 6 weeks. However, the grant will remain the same.

If I am the chosen recipient, how will I receive the grant?

  • Our grants provide partial or full funding toward program fees. Recipients who have paid their program fees will be reimbursed the grant amount. Recipients of grants to Hong Kong or Dublin who have not yet paid their program fee will have to place their deposit of 600 GBP and also pay the first half of the remaining program fee balance. The grant will be deducted from the second half of the program fee. The recipient of the Full-Ride Global Leadership Grant to Colombia receives a stipend in cash, but only when they arrive to Colombia.

How do I show proof of financial aid?

  • In your application send a photo or screenshot of your financial aid letter.

Do I need to be receiving financial aid?

  • Only for the Global Leadership Grant to Colombia. The other grants do not require you to have financial aid, but you are welcome to upload them to support your application.

Can any nationality apply?

Is there an age limit?

  • No, however, you must be a student or recent graduate in order to be eligible for the Global Leadership Grants.

What’s not included?

  • For all grants, visa fees, flights, in-country transportation, insurance or daily food & drink are not included. Also, The Global Leadership Grants to Dublin and Hong Kong don’t include the deposit of $600 GBP and remaining program fees. Here is a source to find the estimated in-country spending.

Can I use the part of the grant as my deposit into the program?

  • No. You will need to pay both your deposit and first 1/2 of the program fee before we discount the Global Leadership Grant. The grant is counted towards your second and final payment to your internship program.
