About Santiago, Chile

Perfectly situated between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean, Chile's capital attracts visitors from all over the world thanks to its cosmopolitan vibe, panoramic mountain views and natural wonders. A leading Latin American city with a western influence, Santiago caters to all tastes.

Santiago is a city with a view like no other. Soak it in from the top of the tallest building in Latin America, Sky Costanera, or atop one of the city's many hills if you're feeling energetic. Take the funicular up to San Cristobal Hill to see the Virgin Mary and then hop on the cable car for more aerial views. Don't worry if heights aren't your thing - the mountains look equally as impressive from Santiago's plentiful parks. Learn about Chile's rich history and culture through its world-class museums and cultural centers. Spend your evening dancing in Bellavista, or listening to street performers in Barrio Italia’s hidden patios.

Chile was voted Lonely Planet’s number one place to visit in 2018, and it’s no surprise why. When looking for an international internship, Chile should be at the top of your list. From majestic Patagonia in the south, to the world’s driest desert, the Atacama, in the north, and all of the hot springs and volcanoes in between, Chile is the perfect destination for anyone who loves adventure. Spend your weekends in the mountains, or at the beach (or both!) Valparaiso, a famous UNESCO World Heritage site and former home to Chilean Poet Pablo Neruda, is also within two hours of Santiago, and makes for the perfect weekend getaway. Art lovers will never want to leave the bohemian paradise.

Whatever your interests, there is no better place for your international internship. Chile is admired for its perfect mixture of modernity and nature. There really is something for everybody in Chile.

An internship in Chile that lasts fewer than 90 days without remuneration is regarded as a voluntary activity and can be conducted with a Tourist Visa (Tarjeta de Turismo). Some nationalities can get it at the airport, others have to request the visa before traveling to the country. Program applicants with a nationality that does not appear on the list do not enjoy visa exemption. You would be required to apply for a Tourist Visa in the Chilean Embassy/Consulate-General in your current location.

Chinese citizens do not need a tourist visa to travel to Chile if they have a tourist visa to the United States or Canada valid for at least 6 months. If they are legal residents (green card holders) or they have any other type of visa (work, student, etc.), a tourist visa is required, and you can receive one at a Chilean Embassy/Consulate-General, free of charge.  If Chinese participants do not maintain a tourist visa from the United States or Canada, they need to apply for a tourist visa, but it is again cost-free for them and they can stay up to 90 days. For these reasons Chinese citizens are limited to 90 day programs.

While The Intern Group will provide guidance and support throughout the visa application process, any potential visa costs are not included in the program fee. It is recommended that you submit any visa applications at least 3 months before your scheduled start date.

Due to restrictions, applicants from Afghanistan, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Macedonia, Nigeria, Sudan, Syria and Palestine are not currently eligible for the internship in Chile program.
